Case Study 1: Working in Partnership to Deliver Management and Leadership Development
The Challenge
The HR Director of a Glasgow-based retailer needed to
boost sales in 150 shops throughout the UK.
The Solution
In partnership with her, the GO team designed a dynamic leadership
and management development programme that the company christened
The Academy 2008. Our staff delivered it in eight UK locations over
three months. The company watched their managers grow in confidence
and motivation, and their retail outlets return record profits.
Case Study 2: Enabling
Leadership and Team Working
The Challenge
The Chief Executive of an employment service agency needed to boost
his team's strategic planning skills in order to compete. To
enhance the core competencies required of his nine managers, he
consulted GO on how best to develop their leadership and team
working skills.
The Solution
Over three months, GO ran a programme of motivational workshops for
the managers that enabled them to spend time together devising and
implementing new projects to take the business forward. As well as
enjoying themselves, they experienced a real improvement in their
skills and the business benefitted from their projects
immediately.
Case Study 3: Supporting
Strategic Planning
The Challenge
Change is often hard to implement. When the owner of a telecoms
company wanted to share more of the responsibility for the business
with his six key managers, he felt discouraged by their response
and decided to consult GO.
The Solution
After discussions, one of our specialist advisers facilitated a
series of structured meetings over several months that helped his
managers create a strategic action plan to address the needs of the
company and their roles within it. By involving his key people in a
vision for the future, the managing director generated a focused
and motivated team to help him take the business to the next
level.
Case Study 4:
Supporting Financial Management
The Challenge
The MD of a car component distribution company approached GO with
his concerns about the inefficiency of his companys financial
planning procedures. He was looking for a powerful tool that he and
his project managers could use to create budgets and monitor
expenditure.
The Solution
One of GO's financial experts worked with him to develop a robust
cash flow forecasting spreadsheet that incorporated actual income
and expenditure to give him a more accurate overview of the
financial health of the business. The system has also alerted him
to other challenges that with GO's help he will feel equipped to
meet.
Case Study 5: Developing IT Skills
The Challenge
A Glasgow-based Public Transport Company had depended on technology
for its administration and reporting procedures. Due to expansion
and promotion of some of their key personnel, the company
identified an urgent need to update the skills of their staff in
three Microsoft packages' from elementary to advanced levels.
Our Solution
The GO team went into immediate action and delivered Microsoft
courses in Excel, Word and PowerPoint to specific groups using the
IT suite at GO's Business and Training Centre in Glasgow. Our
trainer adapted the content in response to the specific workplace
needs of each group. Fulfilling their particular requirements,
rather than delivering a generic course, generated a hugely
positive response. The company were delighted and many staff
members have come back to attend the next levels.
Case Study 6:
Managing Change in Business
The Challenge
Due to organisational re-structuring, some departments within a
London-based financial institution were experiencing sudden changes
in management and the subsequent application of new internal
procedures. These were creating new challenges for the IT
department and so the company sought guidance on how best to
provide the support the IT team needed.
The Solution
A preliminary one day session with the company helped our
team understand the situation. We then devised and ran a course for
the London IT department at the clients Glasgow office.
Participants found time and a supportive atmosphere in which to
share their concerns away from their normal place of work. This
approach enabled the department to resolve their problems and
helped the company negotiate a stressful period of change. GO has
delivered further courses in managing change to their HR team.
